Saturday Super Sale
If you grew up in the Northwest you certainly remember a few of these iconic sales references. Tom Petersons “The happy place to buy” was always offering free flat topped haircuts if you were buying a loveseat or a lazyboy. Les Schwabs yellow and red signs are almost as ubiquitous around these parts as the golden arches are and who wouldn’t want a big ol’ slab of free beef with a set of tires? I was thinking about how I can cement my place in that echelon of Northwest sales fame with the Saturday super sale. The best I could come up with is free Taiwanese Rock Lilies! So the first 32 customers who spend $30 or more on plants will receive a free Lilium formosanum var pricei.

Getting here: We are located at 7645 Sunnyside Rd Se, Salem. At the intersection of Jackson Hill, Delaney and Sunnyside Rds. Parking is available along Sunnyside in front of the cedar fence, or on the gravel in front of the shop if you pull in the driveway. Parking on the shoulder of Sunnyside and Jackson hill is ok, but please don’t block any neighbors driveways or gates and be very careful traffic screams through this once quiet country lane. Please bring your own flat or box for plants to help us minimize our carbon footprint.
The Plants:
The sale special is all plants are $5! Cash is king although we do except cards as well but don’t love giving the 3% to the banking syndicate. Lot’s of cool things available, some in shuttle pots, some in quart pots, and our normal large selection of alpine and rock garden plants in the oh so easy to plant 2.5” size! I’m even throwing some of the rarer seedling stuff that wouldn’t normally be available until next year up for sale! These are the best prices you will see all year on our plants and they won’t be seen again at this amazing low, low price!
A little sneak peak of some of the specialties: Succulents like Dudleya, Tilinum and Lewisia in many different species and colors, Chileans-Calceolaria, Mimulus, Montiopsis, even the super cool tree/shrub Sophora cassiodes! Three different dwarf Trollius species! An amazing selection of true alpines, Silene, cushion formers like Acantholimon, Asperula, Aquilegia, Arenaria, Penstemons, Petrocephalus, Edraianthus, Scuttellaria alpina ‘Moonbeam’, Silvery Drabas! Even drought tolerant late season bloomers like Salvia ringens and the awesome Salvia psicidica. Potted flower bulbs from South Africa to the Mediterranean and even NW natives, like Tritonia, Crinum, Ornithogalum, and Triteleia. So many more great things, but all available in small quantities and sure to go fast at this low, low price!
The Gardens:
We will have coffee and cookies for the early crowd so you can grab a snack while you shop and then take a walk around the gardens, Bring your disc if you play disc golf and play the par 3 hole up in the Cherry orchard, the old goat pen is a notorious hazard on the dog leg left, that has claimed many a disc. Later comers can enjoy a tasting of our favorite local winery with some cheese pairings, Ankeny vineyards is a short hop down the road and has great wood fired pizza for those looking for a lunch spot after the sale.
The rock garden is loaded with flowers so come see the plants that you are buying in the display beds, The Sarracenia are all blooming in the Bog garden as are some neat things in the Alpine plunge and the newer sand beds are starting to grow nicely, the Calochortus are in bloom in the bulb house. (note nothing in the greenhouses is for sale so don’t ask!)
Here is my commercial for the sale, Tighten up that diaphragm and say the line below in your best voice acting delivery:

Then say this line super fast but much quieter:
