A beautiful little alpine anemone native to the mountains of western North America. Anemone drummondii forms a compact tuft of finely divided, softly hairy foliage, with slender stems carrying solitary, upward-facing flowers of white, often delicately flushed blue or lavender on the outer surface. The flowers appear in summer, when the alpine landscape is at its peak.
In the wild it grows in subalpine and alpine meadows, rocky slopes, scree and exposed rock outcrops from British Columbia south to California, with populations extending east into the northern Rocky Mountains. Its natural preference for open, rocky ground makes it an excellent choice for the rock garden, scree bed or alpine trough. Give it sharp drainage and a cool, open position where it can spread slowly among stones rather than compete with vigorous neighboring plants. A lovely native species for recreating a high-elevation mountain planting in the garden.
