Aquilegia bertelonii

$10.00
sold out

Aquilegia bertolonii, our signature plant from the front page of the website! This spectacular specie is a compact, clump-forming columbine native to the limestone mountains of the southwestern Alps, where it inhabits rocky ledges and open alpine slopes. Its finely divided, blue-green foliage forms neat, low mounds that remain attractive throughout the growing season.

In late spring to early summer, it produces relatively large, nodding flowers in rich shades of deep blue to violet, often with contrasting pale centers and elegantly curved spurs. The blooms are held just above the foliage on short stems, creating a balanced, jewel-like display that is especially striking in small-scale plantings.

Aquilegia bertolonii is well suited to rock gardens, troughs, and sharply drained borders, preferring full sun in cool climates or light shade where summers are warmer. It thrives in gritty, well-drained soils and is hardy in USDA Zones 4–7, rewarding careful siting with a refined and colorful alpine presence.
