Aquilegia kitaibellii
A very nice compact Columbine from Bosnia, croatia and slovenia. Lovely deep purple to sky blue flowers, on compact tufted plants. I find the European species to be a bit easier than the lovely but sometimes persnickity Rocky Mountain species especially here in the rain sodden Northwest.
Not picky about soil, but fairly drought tolerant, these are very cold hardy and will do well just about anywhere in the US, although, like most columbines, humid summer weather can lead to powerdery mildew so southern gardeners be aware of that.
