Brodiaea californica Pink Giant
Ron Ratko collection nns 05-113. like so many of Ron’s great finds through the years this one has been a winner. Larger than the common form and flowers of a wonderful pink. This California native is dynamite in the dry garden. The later bloom season is welcome as these blom toward the end of the big spring bloom season as we move into summer when many other bulbs are going dormant these will show up like sparkling gems as the grass dries out in Mediterranean climates.
Ideal for the dry, sunny rock garden, trough, or Mediterranean-style border, it appreciates a sharply drained soil and benefits from a dry dormancy after flowering. Plant bulbs deeply in fall, mimicking its natural cycle, and avoid excess summer water. Hardy to USDA zone 6, possibly lower with excellent drainage and a protected position.
Brodiaea californica Pink giant, adds a luminous touch to naturalistic plantings and associates beautifully with grasses, other geophytes, and drought-tolerant perennials. A quiet gem for those who value California’s floristic richness.
