We have been hybridizing a number of the wonderful Chilean Lady Slipper plants for a while now and the results are getting really great! Large deep red and yellow marked pouches on easy to grow (as long as you don’t cook them). These are seed grown so expect some variation for a fun twist.
A charming, compact perennial with distinctive pouch like (lady slipper) yellow and red flowers held aloft on whispey stems above rosettes of soft, green foliage. Hybrids of many southern Andes of Chile and Argentina species, these thrives in cool, moist environments, but can take some drought given a bit of shade.
Ideal for alpine beds, troughs, or shaded rock gardens where its unique blooms can be admired up close. Best in climates with cooler summers. I do find in our hot, dry western summers these do best with afternoon shade to keep them cool through the hot western nights.
