Corydalis shanginii ssp. ainae

To paraphrase the Pacific Bulbs Society’s super informative wiki, if you aren’t a member you need to be go sign up now!

“Corydalis schanginii (Pall.) B.Fedtsch. is distributed from the western corner of Mongolia to the Black Sea where it is found in summer dry areas at an altitude of 500 to 2000 m (1640 to 6560 ft). Height range: 10-40 cm. There are two subspecies. Subsp. schanginii has rosy purple flowers with a narrow rim bordering the lower petal.’

Subsp. ainae Rukšāns ex Lidén is from the Kara Tau Mountains of Kazakhstan, and has tricolored, white, yellow and soft pink flowers.

By far one of the most beautiful of the Corydalis species out there. In bloom it stops everyone in their tracks, although it’s not large, a pot specimen of this plant is super showy. It will take copious amounts of water when coming into bloom and then extreme drought through the summer rest period.
