Fritillaria obliqua ssp. tuntasia
More restricted version found mainly in the central Peloponnese around the Taygetos range and Mt. Tountas (which gives it the name tuntasia). If you know my backstory it was at Jane McGary’s Estacada garden where I first saw Fritillaria obliqua and was mesmerized! This one is a modest grower, It doesn’t increase so I rarely offer it up. It is however one of the best of the entire genus and an absolute stunner in the bulb kingdom period. Besides the range differential, it has a few characteristics that botanists say makes it unique. I’ll have to photograph them side by side at some point to see if I can tell!
