Galanthus fosteri

$25.00

A beautiful and less commonly seen species of snowdrop, Galanthus fosteri is native to the mountainous regions of southern Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon, where it grows in deciduous woodland, often beneath oaks or among rocks and scrub. This species is prized for its elegant, nodding white flowers that appear in late winter to early spring, sometimes even pushing through snow. The blooms typically have inner segments marked with a green patch and are held above narrow, glaucous green leaves.

Well-suited to rock gardens, woodland edges, or the front of mixed borders, G. fosteri appreciates humus-rich, well-drained soil and dappled shade. It thrives in spots that remain relatively dry in summer but moist during its active growth period in winter and early spring. In the rock garden, it naturalizes beautifully among low groundcovers or nestled into crevices where competition is minimal.

Hardy to USDA Zone 6 (–10°F / –23°C), though protection from excessive winter wet is beneficial in colder climates. Best planted “in the green” or when dormant in late summer. A lovely choice for early season interest and for collectors of species snowdrops.. Short statured and well-behaved. Turkey/Lebanon.
