Origanum rotundifolium — Round-leaved Oregano
A beautiful and unusual ornamental oregano from the mountains of northeastern Türkiye and the western Transcaucasus. Origanum rotundifolium forms a low, spreading plant with rounded, gray-green aromatic leaves and graceful clusters of tiny pink flowers surrounded by conspicuous pale green bracts. The hop-like flower heads are particularly attractive and persist well into summer.
An excellent plant for the rock garden, Origanum rotundifolium is especially effective spilling over the edge of a stone wall, growing through gravel, or tucked into a sunny crevice. Give it full sun and sharply drained, preferably alkaline soil; it performs best in lean conditions and should be protected from prolonged winter wet.
